We lost a great Cognac-lover!

19 December 2011 2 Comments

You will probably not directly think of the died North-Korean Dicator Kim Jong Il as a Cognac lover, he was fond of exclusive Cognacs including brands like Hennessy and Martell.

Reading quotes from Kim Jong Il, it’s quite possible that the shares of Hennessy and Martell will drop in the future, reportedly Kim bought annually $720.000 of Cognac.

The Washington Post:

Denying Kim what he craves, the theory goes, might prompt better behavior from a dictator who reportedly spends nearly a million dollars a year on rare cognac.

Wall Street Journal:

For his timepieces, he prefers Omega, which he also gave out to staff. Even his beverage tastes ran on the pricey side. Apparently, he had a thirst for Perrier bottled water and Martell Cognac.

CNN:

Dr. Post, in his study of the Korean dictator, says Kim Jong Il also loves to drink a certain Hennessey cognac that sells for $630 a bottle in Korea. “He is the largest customer over the last 10 years, averaging between $650,000 and $720,000 a year in purchases — while the average [North] Korean earns only about $900 a year.”

Do you know if there is a market for unopened bottles of Martell Cordon Bleu? I have that still has a IRS Tax Ribbon on it (you know the paper seal that was put across the bottle top and down its sides to show that the taxes had been paid and what stste it was distributed in). My bottle has a reserve reserve limitee no. on it and is probably from around the mid 70’s.
