Visiting La Fontaine de la Pouyade

6 November 2012 One Comment

A few weeks ago we visited the makers of La Fontaine de La Pouyade, probably one of the best Cognacs in the world. We were invited to have a lunch and a comparable tasting against the Louis XIII and Richard Hennessy in their home near the beautiful place Royan.

It was great to eat, drink, talk and discuss with the makers of La Fontaine de La Pouyade, also it was interesting to note the extreme delicacy of La Fontaine de La Pouyade in a blind tasting compared to the Louis XIII and the Richard Hennessy.

The lunch was beautiful including own made Foie Gras (some La Fontaine de la Pouyade included), a delicious local lobster and a special desert. The family was extremely hospitable!

During the lunch we had several interesting discussions, the most beautiful topic was about the wife of Bernard (fourteenth generation of Cognac producer) who healed from some sickness after drinking one glass of La Fontaine de la Pouyade each day, one week long. Their doctor was not amused about the great results special Cognacs such as La Fontaine de la Pouyade can give to somebody’s health.

This family makes Cognacs for centuries, which was shown by their big heritages of administration and old samples of their La Fontaine de La Pouyade quality.

Besides Cognac, Dubosquet also makes wonderful Champagnes, we tasted the Louis Dubosquet Champagne Grand Cru 2005 and 2002, possibly some of the best Champagnes we ever tasted.

About the house Dubosquet:

On the top of being the fourteenth generation of Cognac producers, Bernard is graduated Master of Business and Administration, Administrator of several companies one of which is Domaine La Fontaine de La Pouyade, is running his companies and is involved in the Wine & Spirits Business since 1970. Nominated “Conseiller du Commerce Exterieur de la France” by The French Minister of the External Trade in 1978.

Thomas Dekimpe is the grand son of Bernard, he is the new responsible for the tradition of this Old Family and is preparing for new responsibilities in achieving his Master of Business and Administration in Wine & Spirits Management at the INSEEC in Bordeaux.
