The world famous Cognac producer Hennessy has a history dating back to 1765 when the company was established by Irishman Richard Hennessy. Initially an eaux-de-vie trading business, Hennessy was going to become the most successful Cognac exporter in the world.
Hennessy is the # 1 brandy in the world and represents the Art of Blending. Cognac is a blend of various distillates of wine grapes Ugni Blanc (eaux-de-vie), which have matured in oak barrels.
Hennessy produces many different blends of cognac, with the ‘basic’ VS being the global market leader. Others include VSOP (Very Special Old Pale) and XO (eXtra Old), which were invented by Hennessy in the 19th century. Named after the founder of the house Richard Hennesy, the ‘ultimate cognac’ the Hennessy VS was launched by Hennessy in 1996. Hennessy VS is a perfect blend of more than hundred rare eaux-de-vie, of which some are over 200 years old.
The art of blending is not only evident in Hennessy’s trademark in the creation of the drink, but also in the brand’s way of thinking. Artistic trends are blended in the design of special bottles, the cognac is paired with cigars, food and chocolate. On top of it the Hennessy VS cognac is a very enjoyable mix in long drinks and cocktails.
Hennessy released of another artist-designed special edition bottle label. Following in the footsteps of KAWS and Futura, coveted São Paulo twin brothers artist duo Os Gêmeos teamed up with the world-renowned French cognac house to customize the bottle with their distinct Brazilian folklore-inspired graffiti art.
Lane Crawford HK is an innovative shop and an exciting collaboration showcasing the artistic vision of new and emerging international artist, fusing fashion and art to create one-of-a-kind in-store installations.
This is where HENNESSY launched its XO Exclusive Collection VI that celebrates more than 140 years in one exquisite limited edition carafe, which will inspire Hennessy enthusiasts and collectors alike.

A Fabienne Berthaud’s film for Hennessy Fine de Cognac is premiering on NOWNESS.com today. Set in the idyllic countryside of western France, director Fabienne Berthaud brings what she describes as her own brand of “cinematic magic realism” to this sensual take that mirrors the process behind the making and sipping of the cognac itself.

About 3 years ago I reviewed the Fine de Cognac Hennessy, one year ago this version changed a bit, so I will review this version also.
Previously this Cognac was promoted as VSOP, the new marketing position is between the VS and VSOP. The minimum age of the new Fine de Cognac is two years, where the old was 4 years…

This time a very interesting Your Cognac Article which was originally published on Thecognacforum.com by François.
I’ve been roaming through auctions and attic sales for years, looking to build a collection of old cognacs to drink and transmit to my children when they are adults. Last week a friend of mine told me she knew a lady in Paris who had both a story to tell and two cases of very old bottles of cognac to sell. Feeling intrigued, I got in touch with the lady, now in her early eighties, …

From a reader we received a photo of possibly one of the most interesting Cognacs we received so far; a 1970 Blend Sample of Hennessy. It’s a Hennessy single blend sample which is never released for sale. This sample combined with other blend samples at the time would have been blended for the finished product that year.

Because the Hennessy VSOP isn’t being sold in the European Union I combined my trip to the Cognac-area with a visit to the Hennessy store where I bought the Hennessy VSOP but also a Pure White, KAWS VS and a Black.
The Hennessy VSOP is the first to review! Compared to the Hennessy Fine de Cognac (the European Hennessy between the VS and the XO quality) it is much darker in color, but this has mostly to do with the aging.
A few days ago we already mentioned about the Hennessy / Futura collaboration. In line with this partnership Futura also made some Converse shoes in the same design as the Hennessy X Futura bottle which are being sold in as an even more exclusive “Friends & Family Special Edition”. This edition is being sold at select liquor and spirit stores near you (USA) in the coming weeks.
