Rémy Martin FUTUR HERITAGE, a cultural project exploring new horizons

27 May 2012 2 Comments

Last friday we went to Maison Rémy Martin with Louis XIII and were invited to see the Rémy Martin FUTUR HERITAGE exposition! In this post we publish an article about this event and some photo’s we took during the exposition.

Maison Rémy Martin, with three centuries of experience and expertise in the world of cognac, has established a close relationship with design and creation whether technical or artistic, innovation is central to every thought, word, and deed of the men and women of the Maison.

“Our heritage and our savoir-faire have long been sources of inspiration and creativity for the stewards of knowledge that are our cellar masters, as well as for the artists and designers who have collaborated with our Maison”, says Augustin Depardon, Communication Director Maison Rémy Martin.
FUTUR HERITAGE, a cultural project that explores new horizons, was born of Maison Rémy Martin’s commitment to highlighting its visionary, creative initiatives, fruits of the collaboration and dialogue that have been the company’s very impetus since 1724.
The FUTUR HERITAGE undertaking is an opportunity for Maison Rémy Martin to promote and share creative, forward looking ideas. Exposition # 1 marks the beginning of a series of events organised by one of the most prestigious luxury houses in France.

FUTUR HERITAGE, exposition # 1

Exposition # 1 presents the works of design school students, all centred upon the ritual of tasting. On the initiative of the Comité Colbert, the Colbert International Design Workshop was founded to raise awareness towards young people about the luxury sector and introduce them to the savoir-faire of sector industries. Thus, eight students from Paris’ École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art (National School of Applied Arts and Crafts, or ENSAAMA – Olivier de Serres) and Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London came to Cognac, the very birthplace of Maison Rémy Martin. Three months later, eight original projects came into being.
Original, creative, futuristic products of great artistic imagination, all devoted to the art of tasting.
“Eight fresh and sharp perspectives on the heritage of our Maison, reflecting a dynamic and very positive outlook,” says Caroline Sarrot-Lecarpentier, Press and Public Relations Manager for Maison Rémy Martin.
“New ideas that help us better understand the way the younger generations view our company, which opens up new avenues of inspiration and reflection.”

Scenography by François Delclaux

Maison Rémy Martin called upon scenographer François Delclaux to create this first exhibition, to be previewed at France’s MAISON & OBJET show before moving to Cognac to be displayed at the Maison.
François Delclaux designed a space where the world of Maison Rémy Martin echoed the students’ projects: tradition & modernity, time-honoured savoir-faire & innovation, precious & primitive, historic & instantaneous, material & immaterial.
The scenography, with colours recalling the passage of time for eaux-de-vie, is home to several small units hoisted up onto rough oak supports. Rather like curio cabinets, they present the student projects in images, videos, photos and models, gathering a collection of souvenirs, artefacts resulting from three months of work between London, Paris and Cognac.
The approaches differ from project to project, and the exercise provides an astounding illustration of the way this young generation of designers perceives the world.
