Rémy buys Bruichladdich Whisky

24 July 2012 No Comment

News for some Islay Whisky lovers out here…

The Rémy Cointreau group (known by us as the parent of Rémy Martin) has agreed to acquire the Islay single malt Scotch whisky brand Bruichladdich for £58 million ($89.9m).

The Bruichladdich acquisition marks Rémy’s entry into Scotch whisky brand ownership, but we expect to see some other maybe bigger Whisky brands to follow, as Bruichladdich is quite strong in the smokey, salty and jodium rich segment but it isn’t the most easy selling mainstream premium whisky… Also some other brands give Remy some higher returns on scale…

I hope Rémy uses the expertise of Bruichladdich to make a Cognac with some sea influcences, like Camus did with their Ile de Ré range…..
