Our experiences with Louis XIII in Cannes
A few weeks ago we were invited by Louis XIII to come to Cannes and the Maison Louis XIII in Cognac. Here we go about our experiences!
Yesterday (May 22, 2012) we arrived in Cannes for the Louis XIII event, we were picked up at the Nice-airport with some beautiful Audi A8L‘s! In the backside it is definitely the most beautiful car I have ever been in. After some “celebrity traffic-jam” we arrived in Hotel Five in Cannes. This hotel is really one of the prettiest design hotels and only a half year open…
Arrived in the room there was a surprise: a miniature bottle of Louis XIII, awesome! After packing-out I decided to take a walk in Cannes, this is a place I can really used to! Good weather, beautiful streets, good food, great beach and a lot of luxury!
Tuesday evening we went to the Silencio on the rooftop of Hotel Five, specially for the Cannes Filmfestival this well-known Parisian night-club flew in all personnel to be in Cannes.
We enjoyed some good cocktails and finger food there. The first cocktail was the “Wiseman”, a drink specially made by the bartender of Silencio for Rémy Martin. The second cocktail was the Summit, this cocktail was being created by famous mixologists at The International Cognac Summit. It’s a delightfully refreshing cocktail with fantastic aromatic complexity.
Rémy Martin’s VSOP Matured Cask Finish and smoky Laphraoig Syrup with fresh pineapple and sage, it is smooth and fruity!
Glass: old-fashioned / rocks
Method: prepare directly in the glass Place the lime zest and ginger slices in the glass. Pour in 20 ml (3/4 oz.) of VSOP Cognac. Lightly press the lime and ginger 2 to 3 times using a pestle. Half fill the glass with ice. Stir well for 5 seconds using a bar spoon. Pour in 20 ml (3/4 oz.) of VSOP Cognac. Add 60 ml (2 oz.) of traditional lemonade and the cucumber peel. Stir well for 5 seconds using a bar spoon. Serve immediately.

After a night sleep in the beautiful hotel-room of Hotel Five we went to the Cannes film market. This place is the place where many less-known filmmakers sell their film’s. I have seen many titles and trailers I look forward to!
Near the film-market we also drank a Cognac-longdrink at 10.45 in the morning at the Rémy-Cointreau VIP-room. In this place also a very limited bottle (only 800 bottles) of the 3 liters Rémy Martin VSOP Cannes Edition was being shown.
Midday begun with a marvelous lunch at Nikki Beach, our starter was a Boat-plate full of delicious Sushi’s! Nikki Beach is located at the Cannes Beach and is possibly the trendiest Beach-club/restaurant in Cannes. Great food and nice personnel. We had a good time there!
After this great lunch there was the main event, a unique conversation about East meets West between Alexander Payne and Stanley Kwan. They talked about the role of cinema as a bridge between different generations and different cultures. The conclusion of this event: no matter what nationality a filmmaker or how personal their story, a great film will be universally understood.
To highlight the quality in LOUIS XIII, that inspires creativity, Stanley Kwan brought his own “touch” to the “East Meets West” conversation by revealing in avant-premiere his new directorial webisode, featuring Zhuang Yong, a Chinese freestyle gold-medal winner at the Barcelona Olympic Games.
We enjoyed the Kwan’s webisode and the conversation very much! Afterwards this conversation was the perfect moment to enjoy some superb Louis XIII Cognac!

Wednesday-evening we went to La Petite Maison de Nicole, the restaurant of The Majestic Hotel, one of the most beautiful and luxurious hotels on the Croisette. Here we had a superb dinner with a nice atmosphere. The Fillet of Beef Rossini Style, which is very tender beef with a large piece of Foi Gras (Goose liver), was delicious. This course I can recommend anyone!
Afterwards we had a party with some cocktails at the Silencio, around 1AM we went to the Le Baron, one of the main parties of the film festival, which we attended till 7AM… I have to say, the sun-rising in Cannes is beautiful!
After this Cannes event we went to Cognac, but that’s another post….
