Otard XO Gold

3 December 2010 One Comment

The Otard XO Gold draws its personality from a blend of Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie. It is rounded off with the Borderies which lend it the finesse of a delicately floral aroma, and by the Fins Bois which give it its vigour.
This provides a very special and tasteful Cognac, which is powerful, complex and a long taste.
The drop-shaped bottle of this XO Gold Otard, is especially awesome because of the on-lying family shield.

In 1968, Otard creates a tear-drop bottle. The design drew its inspiration from the cognac itself. When cognac is swirled inside a glass, to bring out better the fullness of its aromas, it leaves a fine film on the sides from which a few droplets run down. The cognac is said to be weeping. These tears inspired the shape of the bottle. For over thirty years, this shape has remained the constant theme of all Otard designs. Its pure lines and its simplicity go hand in hand with the constant thrust for sobriety, elegance and modernism.

The tasting notes of the Otard XO Gold are:

The color: orange / red gold.
The fragrance: typical rancio flavor (harmony of scents with morning-mushrooms, cheese, hazelnuts and leather), also vanilla, flowers (violets) and honey.
The taste: soft, round, and also some wood rancio taste.
The after-taste: a very long taste.
The origin: Grande Champagne combined with Borderies and Fins Bois. For the most part Grande Champagne.
The age: about 35 years old.
The price: about 90, –
The price / quality ratio: 8,5.
