A Parisian by birth, Hennessy spent his youth in Cognac, studied agriculture in Paris and spent a number of years in West Africa. In 1975, he returned to Cognac and the family firm. He focused first on communications, before playing an active role in developing the British market. Since returning to Cognac in 1984, he has been one of Hennessy’s most tireless ambassadors. He travels widely to promote Hennessy products, training staff around the world, rallying the international sales team and serving as a spokesperson with media.

Hennessy is fluent in English, Spanish and Italian. His hobbies include cooking and gardening. A passionate music lover, he organises concerts in his hometown and often uses musical terms to explain the blending processes of cognac. Following family tradition, he owns a vineyard, which has him involved personally in the main activity of the Cognac region, where he lives with his wife, Catherine.

The special bottle, which has not yet been revealed, will only be available for sale in Jamaica through official distributors of the Hennessy brand, J. Wray and Nephew Limited, according to a press release.

Geoffrey Bouilly, Moet Hennessy market manager for the Caribbean said “Jamaicans have been very loyal to the Hennessy brand, particularly Hennessy VS, and so the Moet Hennessy Group created a very special limited edition bottle exclusively for Jamaica as a symbol of their appreciation and respect for the Jamaican people on the achievement of this historic milestone in the country’s history.”

Bouilly noted that the contents of the limited edition Hennessy VS bottle is the same high quality liquor that Jamaicans love and it is only the bottle that has been changed to reflect the celebration of the 50th anniversary of independence.

As part of their plans to commemorate the Jamaica 50 celebrations, Hennessy Jamaica and J. Wray & Nephew Limited will also be running a bartender competition to find the Hennessy Very Special Jamaica 50 official cocktail.

Hennessy Cognac brand manager, Debbian Spence-Minott, said: “We want to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence with an original, first-class cocktail created by a Jamaican and made with Hennessy VS, which is the world’s leading cognac, and Jamaica’s finest local ingredients.”

The Hennessy Very Special Jamaica 50 bartender competition included four regional heats where bartenders from across the island had the opportunity to showcase their skills at mixing special Hennessy VS cocktails.

The winner of each of the regional heats then go on to compete for the title of official Hennessy mixologist and the honour of having their blend become the official Hennessy Jamaica 50 cocktail at the grand finals.

The limited edition Hennessy VS bottle will be available for sale from May 1, 2012.
