Martell Cordon Bleu

29 May 2010 6 Comments

Edouard Martell (the great-uncle of the current director), developed in 1912 the legendary Cordon Bleu. Martell Cordon Bleu is a classic among the great cognacs.

The secret of the Martell Cordon Beu cognac lies in the harmonious blending of eaux-de-vie from different districts. To blend the Cordon Bleu the master blender selects older eaux-de-vie from the four best Cognac districts.
Many of these eaux de vie are stored in a dark, quiet basement for more than a generation. They are regularly reviewed and tasted by the chief taster.

Borderies is the smallest district in the Cognac region, Martell buys each year 60% of annual production Borderies. These eaux-de-vie are the heart of Cordon Bleu. Grande and Petite Champagne are added for strength and finesse, along with some excellent Fins Bois.

The tasting notes of Martell Cordon Bleu are:

The color: golden copper color.
The fragrance: floral and spicy aromas, very elegant and gentle.
The taste: extremely soft and round. Rich in fruit and some licht wood-flavour.
The after-taste: taste is long and good flavor.
The origin: Grande Champagne, Petit Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois.
Age: Approximately 25 years.
The price: 100 dollars.

Martell Cordon Bleu, 6.8 out of 10 based on 31 ratings
