De Luze XO – Fine Champagne

21 April 2011 5 Comments

The De Luze XO is a wonderful rich, aromatic Cognac XO at an affordable price of around 34 euros. For this money you got a great buy!

This is an XO Fine Champagne Cognac with 70% coming from the Grande Champagne and about 30% from the Petite Champagne region.

De Luze is often underestimated in size, it is in possession of 400 hectares of vineyards, that makes De Luze the largest private vineyard owner. In addition, it is in possession of 41! distilling kettles.

The scale of De Luze should not spoil the fun, because the already tasted De Luze VS, VSOP and XO Alfred De Luze tastes sublime. The price and the stunning design of this decanter is a bonus on top!

This XO is matured between 6 and 15 years, but this XO offers also more mature competitors strong defense.

I tasted the De Luze XO in the caraf as shown in the above picture. The 2011 carafe (right) of the Luze The XO is somewhat different and perhaps something even nicer.

The tasting notes of this Luze The XO Cognac are:

The color: copper-gold with brown-red tones.
The fragrance: strong Fine Champagne aroma’s, vanilla, oak, eucalyptus, light fruit, jasmine and something.
The taste: full, and some spicy oak, with figs, prunes, toffee and cigar-like thing. For an XO might be a little too simple but the price stated … a lot.
The origin: 70%  Grande Champagne and 30% Petite Champagne.
The age: on average 6 to 15 years old. The oldest is from the blend Boinaud Estate Harvest in 1980.
The price: 34 euros!
The price / quality ratio: 9.5. Sublime XO Cognac made from Grande and Petite Champagne Cognacs, in a nice bottle for a minimum amount of money! Great!
