Davidoff VSOP – Cognac Review

30 December 2012 No Comment

Davidoff-VSOPThe Davidoff VSOP is being made by Thomas Hine for Davidoff, known for their superb cigars. This Cognac should match great with these cigars.

In the past Davidoff was being made under licence by Hennessy, two years ago Davidoff decided to change to Hine. Known for their great quality Cognacs.

In contrast to the Cognacs made by Hine, this Davidoff is not made from Grande Champagne or Petite Champagne Cognacs solely, it also contains some selected eaux-de-vie from the Fins Bois region. I think this is a good thing, as Fins Bois ages faster than the “Champagnes”, this Cognac seems to be aged very well for a VSOP Cognac.

This Davidoff VSOP Cognac is a powerful and balanced cognac. It is a surprisingly complex cognac, long and lingering on the palate. I will try this Cognac very soon with a good Cuban!

Davidoff VSOP Miniature Review

The review notes of this Davidoff VSOP are:

The color: caramel gold.
The nose: warm nose, wood aroma’s of cedar, tabacco, honey, plum, prune and cherries. Enjoyable!
The taste: powerful and fruity on the palate with flavors of honey and tobacco. Great balance between the fruity and wood elements.
The after-taste: great after-taste which lasts at least 5 minutes.
The origin: Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois.
The age: unknown, at least 4 years. We expect this Cognac to have a age of about 10 years.
The price: About 45 euro’s for 1 liter.
The price / quality ratio: a 8+. Great quality and price for this well known brand. Way better price/quality ratio than the big brands.
