Daniel Bouju Royal – Brut de fût

20 January 2010 4 Comments

This Cognac contains 60% alcohol, the highest I ever tasted in a “legal” cognac.

Brut de fût literally means: directly from the barrel. Therefore, this 15 years old Cognac is not diluted with distilled water to the usual alcohol content of 40% in Cognac, and not filtered.

All of Daniel Bouju Cognacs are from the Grande Champagne region.

Daniel Bouju is a big fan of woody Cognacs. Daniel Bouju uses no sugar or caramel to color in order to sweeten its Cognacs.

This Cognac also fits perfectly with a cigar, it doesn’t fall away in terms of strength in comparing to a strong Cuban cigar.

The tasting notes of the Royal Daniel Bouju – Brut de fût 60% are:

The color: very dark brown.
The fragrance: woody, walnuts and mild alcohol odor. Less complex because there is less room for the odors.
The taste: rather soft start (the alcohol content falls into), woody, dry, slightly tart by taninnes. Also leather and tobacco flavors.
The after-taste: very long after-taste, you notice the higher alcohol percentage…
The age: 15 years matured, good for the XO designation.
The origin: 100% Grande Champagne Cognac.
Price: 80 dollars.
The price / quality ratio: an 8.

I’ve tried diluting this Cognac with water, but the Cognac became too watery for me.

Daniel Bouju Royal – Brut de fût, 8.5 out of 10 based on 2 ratings
