17 August 2011 10 Comments

Colakey developers introduced the first serious Iphone and Ipad App about Cognac in the App-store. It’s called the Brandy and Cognac Bible.

This app offers descriptions about more than 40 wineries and will be up-dated regulary with new information.

This app is currently sold for half price, normal price is $1.99. Click here for the app.

Brandy is a spirit produced by distilling wine. Brandy generally contains 35%–60% alcohol by volume and is typically taken as an after-dinner drink. Some brandies are aged in wooden casks, while some are simply colored with caramel coloring to imitate the effect of such aging (and some brandies are produced using a combination of both aging and coloring).

On the other hand, Cognac, named after the town of Cognac in France, is a variety of brandy. It is produced in the wine-growing region surrounding the town from which it takes its name, in the French Departements of Charente and Charente-Maritime.

As an Appellation d’origine contrôlée, in order to bear the name Cognac, the production methods for the distilled brandy must meet specified legal requirements. It must be made from certain grapes ; of these, Ugni Blanc, known locally as Saint-Emilion, is the most widely used variety today. It must be distilled twice in copper pot stills and aged at least two years in French oak barrels from Limousin or Tronçais. Most cognacs are aged considerably longer than the minimum legal requirement, because cognac matures in the same way as whiskies and wine when aged in a barrel.

The Brandy & Cognac Bible is an application containing detailed information of 300+ Brandy & Cognac. It is an ideal reference tool for people who enjoy fine spirits as well as those who are in the spirit trading business. For most brandies & cognacs included, the following information is available:

◆ Retail Price
◆ Other descriptions

In addition, the App also contains a list of 40+ famous winery well known for producing brandy and cognac, with their most popular products listed as well as their contact information.

The application is optimized for iPad, iPad2, iPhone4, iPhone 3G/3GS & iPod Touch.

◆ An interface to preview all itmes in one view
◆ The ability to bookmark selected items for easier reference
◆ Cross-referencing links to other items

Dear Wouter, it urgently needs to be stated that the content of this App was entirely copied from http://www.cognac-expert.com. This is highly unprofessional, considering the time, effort and enthusiasm invested in this website.

It seems needless to note, that to steal images and copy paste texts is not at all respectable and against the law. We (Cognac Expert) already claimed this copyright infringement to Apple Inc. and expect that this App will be blacklisted soon.

We are a confused by cognacfans’ promotion of the App – surely you know our site, and would have noticed this outrageous copyright breach.

Dear employee of Cognac-expert, the content is copied from several resources on the internet, indeed Cognacexpert included.

You shouldn’t be confused about our promotion, we are not in any way Affiliated with this party.

    Dear Wouter,
we only found information from our website, 1:1 copied. And it’s not acceptable. Also if other real cognac fans would be copied, it would be a reason more for us to take action.

But if you are aware of the copying and that the app obviously infringes copyrights in the cognac field, why do you (especially as someone of the most dedicated cognac writers) promote the software?

It’s the same thing with dvds and music. Now cognac too.
