Barrels of fun in the land of brandy

Interesting article by MARK JONES. Chateau de L’Yeuse, a fine 19th-century house in the heart of Cognac, has a glass display cabinet showcasing some of the region’s best produce – slippers.
That’s right: slippers. Proper red and black check, comfy things, called pontoufles charentaises.
The quality of slipper craftsmanship is a source of great local pride. It is a bit like going to the Louis Vuitton HQ and finding an old rucksack given pride of place in the lobby…

Success for Bisquit Cognac

Bisquit’s success with an annual duty free growth of +68% over the past 12 months is attributed to its expanded listings in key airports and tourist locations in Moscow, Singapore, Dubai, Taipei and Seoul. The French heritage Cognac house has also strengthened support of its existing listings through activation programmes including tastings and high-end gift packs for selected markets.

Value rises for Cognac shipments – 2012/2013

The Cognac region has reported its second largest set of annual shipment figures, despite a slight dip on last year’s record volumes.
Total shipments of Cognac in the 12 months to the end of July came in at 166m bottles, according to figures from the Bureau National Interprofessionnel Cognac (BNIC). The performance in volume terms was 1.1% down on the corresponding period a year ago, when the region set an all-time record for shipments.

Expensive cupcake with Louis XIII Cognac

Targeting sweet-toothed high rollers, one Las Vegas bakery is selling a $750 cupcake.
The aptly named Decadence D’Or, on the menu at The Palazzo hotel’s Sweet Surrender store, is crafted out of Venezuelan chocolate, Tahitian vanilla butter cream, 100-year-old cognac and gold leaf.
Apart from the ingredients – and indeed the price – another unique feature is its fancy fleur-de-lis shape.

Rémy Martin Louis XIII Rare Cask 42,6 – Diner in Amsterdam

In June the Rémy Martin Louis XIII Rare Cask 42,6 was launched in the Netherlands, we were invited for a wonderful launch diner at the magnificent Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam.
In this post I’d like to show you some pictures of the evening. I will also tell something about the delicious food we had.
As a starter we got smoked! mozzarella with melon, a very special combination. Then we got a very nicely smoked salmon, scallops with bacon, lamb from Texels (a small island above the Netherlands) and a delicious dessert. …

Altia buys Larsen from Rémy Martin

Rémy Cointreau, which bought six months ago cognacs Larsen, has reached an agreement with the Altia Scandinavian group to use the brand. Altia has a turnover of € 110 million in 2012 with 1,100 employees. It already has the cognac brand Renault purchased from Pernord Ricard in 2010 and Grönstedts.  Altia is the leading Finnish spirits corporation in the Nordic and Baltic countries, where Larsen traditionally positioned itself as a key Cognac brand. According to “Les Echos”, the sale would be € 53 million.

Hine 250 Anniversary Edition

Thomas Hine, an Englishman who was sent to the Cognac at an age of 16 by his father, rubbing the art of trading in Jarnac, is not the founder of the company which was established in 1763 on the banks of the Charente. Thomas has won the trust of founder James Delamain, and the heart of his daughter, Elizabeth. Since 1817, the name Hine  connects the house to his name.
