Bisquit: The Comeback of a French Heritage Cognac

25 April 2013 2 Comments

Bisquit XOBisquit, the French heritage cognac brand steeped in 200 years of history is proud to announce its modern revival as it re-enters the market with its latest product range: the soft and fresh Bisquit VS Classique, the smooth Bisquit VSOP, the rich Bisquit XO and limited edition Bisquit XO Gold as well as the abundant Bisquit Prestige and Experience Bisquit Coffret lines.

Founded in the heart of France in the Cognac region in 1819, the House of Bisquit Cognac was born from the passion and vision of Alexandre Bisquit, an inquisitive and open-minded French intellectual whose spirit of adventure filtered through to every aspect of his life – from his extensive travels to the farthest reaches of the globe, to his innovative and creative approach to the making of a smoother and more supple cognac.

THE RENAISSANCE OF AN AUTHENTIC FRENCH COGNAC

Founded in the heart of France in the Cognac region in 1819, the House of Bisquit Cognac was born from the passion and vision of Alexandre Bisquit, an inquisitive and open-minded French intellectual whose spirit of adventure filtered through to every aspect of his life – from his extensive travels to the farthest reaches of the globe, to his innovative and creative approach to the making of a smoother and more supple cognac.

Today, this very spirit of adventure and self-renewal translates itself in the renaissance of the Bisquit House, which has spent the past few years meticulously preparing for the launch of its heritage product range across the emerging markets of China, Africa, Russia and Latin America. Since its acquisition by the South African group Distell in 2009, Bisquit has taken special time to carefully prepare for its modern revival through the launch not only of its heritage range of products, but also the grand opening of its thoughtfully renovated Château Bisquit, situated in Cognac.

This celebrated region of France is named after the Charente river, which crosses the land and which ancient spirit traders called ‘the river of patience’ – in perfect complement to Bisquit’s guiding principle of time,” said Vincent Chappe, President of the House of Bisquit Cognac. “As we make our modern-day comeback, we continue to uphold our French craftsmanship and vision which has always been transfused with an international outlook and has been part of our heritage since our founder’s first travels to China in 1849.”

TIME IS THE NEW LUXURY

Bisquit’s longer distillation process perfectly embodies the House’s dedication to mastery of time and attention to detail. If the cognac is heated too long, the flavours will become bitter and unpleasant. But with the savoir-faire to recognize the right moment, Bisquit Cognacs are transformed into the unique House style that has been renowned for nearly 200 years. The unique expertise of Bisquit’s Maître de Chai (cellar master) is essential to elaborating the cognacs, giving Bisquit its celebrated smooth and more abundant bouquet.

Denis Lahouratate, Bisquit’s Maître de Chai, comments: “This additional time – a decidedly 15% longer distillation – extracts more concentrated aromas that are otherwise impossible to obtain. This allows Bisquit Cognacs to come to their full expression and embody the tremendous abundance and generosity of the bouquet: rich in fruit, spice and wood, at once refined and flamboyant.”

Why does Bisquit take extra time? Because the House believes that luxury is not about outward displays of wealth, but about inner wealth. It is not about grand overtures or sweeping gestures, but individual, privileged and luxurious moments of pleasure. Art de vivre is knowing how and when to give things their own time to come to full expression. Because when we find something to be important, we give it time. Like giving a cognac the time to become smooth and more abundant, or taking the time to truly taste and appreciate its riches.

Alexandre Bisquit knew the power and the pleasure of time when he dedicated his life in 1819 to creating a superior French cognac with a longer distillation time than others. Because he knew, as Bisquit knows today, that time is what you make it. Because having time to savour the pleasures of life is the greatest luxury of all. To indulge in the sumptuousness of a moment with family or friends. It is the luxury of an after-dinner drink and an opportunity to share memories, feelings and dreams. Time is life’s greatest pleasure, and it is precious not just because it is scarce, but because – as all cognac connoisseurs know – you cannot make time if you do not take the time to enjoy life’s pleasures.

A REFINED PALATE FOR REFINED TASTE

Known to be among the favourite cognacs of His Majesty King George IV of England and Nicolas II Tsar of Russia, Bisquit owes its distinctive flavour and suppleness to a uniquely longer distillation period. This is the hallmark of the House’s savoir-faire, and the origin of its cognacs’ award-winning aromas, giving each Bisquit Cognac its own unique style and personality. The bouquet of Bisquit Cognacs is more generous because of its aromatic intensity, a larger palate with notes of vanilla, toffee, liquorice, chocolate, citrus or rose. At the end of the longer distillation, the aromatic notes of Bisquit Cognacs are smoother, softer and more voluptuous. Its supple and well-balanced aromas enhance an utterly captivating tasting experience.

The VS Classique has a soft, fresh character; on the nose and on the palate, the bouquet is expressed around a core of fresh fruit flavours. VSOP is smooth and mellow on the palate with a long, satisfying finish. On the nose and in the mouth, the VSOP bouquet is expressed around a core of full, ripe fruit. The style of XO is characterised by an incredible richness of aromas, with a full body and stunning smoothness. On the nose and on the palate, the XO bouquet is expressed around a core of wood and smoked nuances and rich fruit. Bisquit also offers its connoisseurs new innovations such as Bisquit Prestige – a 21st century expression of Bisquit, and the Experience Bisquit Coffret, the luxurious way to share the pleasure of the Bisquit range; and limited editions such as Bisquit XO Gold, a unique piece of only 1,819 bottles that celebrate the House’s founding date.
