Harrods, world’s largest department store in London, showcases the oldest Courvoisier & Curlier cognac vintage 1789.

The 233-year-old cognac on display in the Harrods wine shop’s tasting room, was only recently recognized as the earliest known vintage of the prestigious French Cognac brand. It was discovered in the the World largest Old Liquors collection of Dutch collector Bay van der Bunt.

In recognition of this rare find, Harrods and Courvoisier issue an open invitation to cognac lovers all around the world to join them in celebrating the discovery of this rare spirit.

The tasting room will feature L’Atelier de Courvoisier, encapsulating the art and science of the cognac making process. Curious shoppers can view how raw ingriedients of grapes, oak and copper are transformed into something far more precious: liquid gold.

To experience for yourselves, L’Atelier is open to the public during the hours of 12pm-4pm Wednesday 5th, Thursday 6th and Saturday 8thDecember.” says Bart Laming, head of the Old Liquors Collection. “Evenings are reserved for invited guests who are treated to an exclusive and bespoke experience.”

The guests’ thirst will be quenched with The St. Helena – a cocktail specially designed for the occasion by Nathan Merriman of London’s ‘The Club at The Ivy’. During cocktails, Rebecca Asseline, Courvoisier’s Brand Ambassador, takes guests on a sensory journey through the world of the rich amber liquid. Courvoisier XO will be poured directly from a barrel taken from the cellars of Château Courvoisier in Jarnac, France. A unique food pairing menu compliments the key aromas found within this exquisite blend of cognac, including brill-shasimi marinated in vanilla and mint, venison loin with chocolate, thyme jus and blood orange and French lavender cake, prepared by the Harrods chef.

Master Blender, Patrice Pinet, will guide guests through the rich heritage of Courvoisier, from grape to glass, followed by a rare and exclusive tasting of the prestigious blend Succession J.S., the most cherished Courvoisier liquid.

The bottle of 1789 Courvoisier & Curlier Cognac, will exclusively be on sale for £ 90,000 at Harrods this Christmas and will definitely be a rare treat for the person who finds this gift-wrapped with their name on it.

“I dare say this will be among the most expensive spirits on sale this Christmas,” according Bart.
